Sunday School Opening

On Sunday, Sept.13, 2009 it was the Sunday of the Feast of the Exaltation of The Holy Cross and the opening of Sunday School.
It was a beautiful day and our students received a warm welcome from the teachers and volunteers. The school started with the Lord’s Prayer following with the Sunday School’s anthem and “sharagans”.

The students learned about the Holy Cross Day and the history behind the festive day after which everyone received Holy Communion.

We followed our tradition of celebrating the summer time bithdays. The Sunday School students were each given a cross decorated with tricolour ribbons representing the Armenian flag. We entered the church to participate in “tapor”.

On Sunday, Sept. 20th, Sunday School students celebrated the 18th Anniversary of the

Independence of Armenia.  They learned about the history of Independence, the flag, and

historic places of our land Armenia.

THE 18TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMENIA’S INDEPENDENCE

Monday, September 21, marked the 18th anniversary of the establishment of the independent Republic of Armenia. For this occasion, Bishop Bagrat Galstanian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Canada, has advised parish priests of the Armenian Church Canadian Diocese to conduct the special thanksgiving prayer and the blessing of the flag ceremony for the Republic of Armenia.

Armenia
declared its sovereignty from the Soviet Union on August 23, 1990.  In the wake of the August Coup, a referendum was held on the question of secession.  Following an overwhelming vote in favour, full independence was declared on September 21, 1991.  However, widespread recognition did not occur until the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union on December 25, 1991.  Armenia became a member of the United Nations on March 2, 1992.

On Sunday, September 20th, 2009, following the Divine Liturgy, a special flag-blessing ceremony took place at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church on the occasion of 18th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia.

Our beautiful tricolor flag was carried to the altar by six students representing AGBU Zaroukian Armenian Day School, Holy Trinity Church Sunday School and St. Sahag St. Mesrop Armenian Saturday School.

S-IMG_2476.jpg
A group of cheerful Sunday School students waved small flags adding a cheerful sight to the ceremony.

Our Pastor and parishioners were honoured to have a special guest amongst them.  A Lebanese Member of Parliament from Beirut, Honorable Shant Chinchinian, was present during the Divine Liturgy and was asked to come forward to receive a special blessing and the Holy Trinity Armenian Church Medal from Rev. Archpriest Zareh Zargarian.

S-IMG_2470.jpg

On behalf of the Pastor, parish council and parishioners of Holy Trinity, we wish Mr. Chinchinian the best of success in his important and challenging duties, including representing the large Armenian diasporan community of Beirut.

S-IMG_2483.jpg

May God bless our cultural and spiritual homeland

and keep our people safe.

O Lord our God, listen to the voice of supplications of your servants and keep unshaken the Republic of Armenia, which you restored through the grace of your mercy.

Hold out your most generous merciful hand and bless our entire people, namely the Armenian nation, and the Armenian Church, so that a spirit of love, peace, understanding, and divine worship would rest upon them.

dual celebration.

The school Principal Mrs. Sonia Kradjian welcomed over 200 students and their parents to the 2009-2010 school year renewing the schools commitment to the betterment of our youth’s learning the Armenian language, heritage, history and culture and strengthening our faith.

S-IMG_2458.jpg

S-IMG_2434.jpg

As per every Saturday morning the children started the day with the Canadian, Armenian and school anthems, recited Shapatorya’s “Mer Oukhde” and prayed with Rev. Archpriest Zareh Zargarian who offered encouragement to the students and their parents in their efforts to preserve their heritage.

In unison the students filed out of the A.G.B.U. gym to the courtyard memorial to celebrate the Independence Day of Armenia releasing red, blue and orange balloons into the wind en route to their homeland.

Armenian Family Support Services (AFSS) presents a Delicious Luncheon
in support of Armenian families from Iraq!!

We are in a celebration mood to welcome our additions to the Canadian Armenian Community!!

Yes, we are proud to announce that through the hard work and dedication of FSS Hay Doun, our sister office in Montreal, thirty Armenian applicants, having fled from war-torn Iraq and who have been residing with their children in other countries equally harsh and unsafe, have been approved to come to Canada through the Collective Sponsorship program.

There are many more applicants and we are hopeful they too will be accepted.

As the families arrive, they will need our support for their new life in Canada. How can you help celebrate and support them?

FSSLogo 5 a.jpg

Join us this Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 12:30 pm at the Holy Trinity Armenian Church, where a group of Armenian faithful ladies are bringing their heartfelt services preparing us one delicious lunch to remember. The entire proceeds from this luncheon will support the newcomers with their transition.

The Armenian Family Support Services (AFSS) and FSS Hay Doun have been helping settle and integrate Armenian Newcomers into the Canadian Armenian community life for many years. This being a larger group of newcomers, your support and donations will ensure that we are able to assist them with resettlement into a safer life that we, here in Canada, have been so fortunate to have.

If you would like further information or would like to make a financial donation, please contact Hasmik Minasyan at the AFSS Office at 416-431-5549 or church office at 416-431-3001.

By helping build strong communities, we’re building a vibrant future for us all!!
